The Democratic Alliance (DA) within the Limpopo Legislature has expressed concern about the irregular expenditure incurred by the provincial Education Department.
Audit experiences point out that the division has incurred nearly two billion rand in irregular expenditure previously three monetary years. The division is but to remark.
DA spokesperson on schooling, Jacques Smalle, says the division is battling to handle the issues comparable to non-compliance in provide chain administration.
“The department has consistently had high levels of irregular expenditure and accumulated 329 million rand of irregular expenditure in the current financial year, 694 million and further 957 million rand in the previous two financial years. The Democratic Alliance has written to the chairperson of the Portfolio Committee of Education to request the department to send a report to the committee with the department’s [plan to] address these audit findings as well as to address consequence management.”
In February, the Democratic Alliance (DA) stated the Gauteng Department of Education incurred over R1 billion in irregular expenditure for the 2019/2020 monetary year.
The occasion stated that in response to the Auditor-General, efficient steps haven’t been taken to cease non-compliance in procurement and contract administration.
However, the division stated that it solely incurred irregular expenditure of R14-million in that monetary year.
