New Zealand investor gives up knighthood over child porn

Disgraced New Zealand businessman Ron Brierley has surrendered his knighthood after admitting to possessing child pornography, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s office stated on Tuesday.

Ardern moved to strip Brierley of the honour in April after the Sydney-based octogenarian pleaded responsible to possessing photos of child abuse.

But Ardern’s office stated he as a substitute wrote to Queen Elizabeth II tending his resignation as a knight.

“Ron Brierley may no longer use the title ‘sir’ and he has been asked to return his insignia,” a spokesperson stated in an announcement.

Brierley, 83, was arrested at Sydney airport in December 2019, when police discovered giant quantities of child pornography on his laptop computer and arduous drives throughout a baggage search.

Brierley earned a status as one in all Australasia’s most feared company raiders within the Nineteen Eighties, turning his Brierley Investments into New Zealand’s largest listed company.

He was knighted for his companies to business administration in 1988.
